Alan LeRoy Soper was born on March 21, 1946, in Cheshire, England, to parents Lee Soper, who had careers in the military and art, and May Dudley Soper, an anti-aircraft spot-lighter during WWII and homemaker. Alan passed away on March 17, 2024.
Alan was active-duty military serving in many hotspots over the years to include Vietnam. He was awarded multiple awards for his service.
Alan graduated from Campbell University in Law Enforcement. He retired from the United States Army in 1985. Alan worked with the FAA, was the chief pilot for CASA USA, and worked in aviation until he retired at the age of 72. Alan instructed many people to fly and held numerous aircraft certifications. In his later years, Alan developed Parkinson’s Disease. Rock Steady Boxing was instrumental in his balance and coordination which kept him active.
Alan is survived by his wife, Ruth Landrum Soper; his sisters, Christine (Jim), Eileen; his brother-in-law, David Landrum (Mary Ann); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Alan enjoyed aviation, reading, and traveling.
