Angus Cashwell Obituary

Angus Dixon Cashwell of Fayetteville, 80, passed away on Tuesday, September 24th at UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center. His visitation will be held on Friday, September 27th from 6-8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Angus’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 28th at Village Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park with military honors.

Angus was the youngest son of the late Arthur Dixon Cashwell and Elizabeth MacDonald Cashwell and was also preceded in death by daughter Carla Dixon Cashwell, infant Cashwell, brother Malcolm Cashwell, brother Richard Cashwell (Betty), sister Emily Cashwell Johnson, sister Margaret Cashwell Wood, sister Sara Cashwell Donaldson, brother Tom Cashwell, and sister Frances Cashwell Kennedy (Daryl), brother-in-law Henry Holt, and sister-in-law Jean Cashwell.

Angus was born on May 1, 1939 and grew up on a farm in Gray’s Creek, N.C. with his eleven beloved brothers and sisters. He accepted Christ and grew in faith at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church. Angus graduated from Hope Mills High School and went on to attend Presbyterian Jr. College and then Guilford College.

Angus served in the United States Army in the 118th  and the 18th Airborne as an elite military police officer and a paratrooper in the Special Forces Reserves with 48 jumps including jumps over Staten Island and Panama.

After his service to his country, he served his community as a motorcycle police officer in the Raleigh Police Department where his passion of the automotive industry was formed. Angus purchased a recovery business that later lead him to the car business where he opened Cashwell Auto Sales and made a career for himself and thrived as a local business owner for 40 years.

Angus was a protector, provider and a man perfect in his love for his family-- both biological and those he befriended and later loved like his own. As a faithful husband and father, he led by example and pointed all of his children in the ways of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Angus never saw himself as a perfect man, but served a perfect savior and placed all of his faith in Him. Angus was a faithful member of Village Baptist Church where he rededicated his life and cherished his church family including his Sunday school class, the Kingdom Seekers. Although Angus and his adored wife, Belinda, loved to travel the world, they enjoyed no experience greater as a couple than all the Sundays they spent together worshiping the Lord.

Angus is survived by his wife, Belinda Bunce Cashwell, daughters Kelly Hudson (Eddie), Tara Hazelrigg (Brian) and Ashley McCulloch (Jesse), son Dixon Cashwell, grandchildren, Miranda Hudson, Kevlyn Hudson, Lance Hudson, Joey Hazelrigg (Julie-Kate), Allison Keatts (Justin), Audrey Hazelrigg, Karrington Smith Cashwell, Lauchlin McCulloch, Josiah McCulloch,Canaan Myers, brother Laughlin (Don) Cashwell (Hilda), and sisters Mary Frasche’ (Denny), Prudy Bradley (Larry), Janet Holt, and his seven wonderful great grandchildren.
