Melvin Lafayette (Maxwell) Martemus 73 of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family.
Melvin Lafayette Martemus was born in Cleveland Ohio to the late Audrey A. Bonner and the late Ernest McCulley. After Graduating from High School, Melvin enlisted into the United States Air Force. While in the Military, he met and married Maxine McClendon. He had a successful Career of 20 years and then Reitred.
Mr Melvin Martemus was a 36 year member of the Fayetteville, NC Chapter of Soka Gakki International-USA (SGI) and became a member in 1983 while servicing in the military. This chapter represents the most diverse buddhist community in the United States.
Upon Retirement, Melvin completed his College Associate Degree which allowed him Certification in the following: Real Estate Broker, Tax Planning & Consulting, Community Planning & Development. In addition he was involved in the following organization, the National Black Veterans Association. He help establish several youth & senior organizations that were instrumental in improving housing for low income families.
He leaves to mourn his loving and faithful wife, Maxine Martemus; daughter, Donnetta Ross (Larry), Son, Tarus Martemus, Sr (Beneatrice); two sisters, Ethelyn Penn, Hughetta Hammond (Robert), three sisters in law Alvenia Lewis (Ira), Carmen Gill, Tangia Smikle; uncle, Kenneth Martemus (Viola); aunt; Ann Martemus and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, neices, nephews,cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 1pm to 2pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home
The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel.
