Victor “Sonny” Rogers, 87, of Vass passed away peacefully on November 7, 2018 at First Health Hospice of Moore County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Myrtle Rogers and his wife, Sara Rogers of 55 years.
Surviving are his son, Tommy and wife Margie of Vass; daughter, Susan Smith and husband David of Waxhaw; grandchildren, Theresa (Doug) Steigerwald, Jennifer Rogers and Laura (Anthony) Wayne; great grandchildren, Olivia and Harper Steigerwald, Annabelle and Elias Wayne; brother, Eugene Rogers; sisters, Merle Martin, Lillian Sherrill and numerous nieces and nephews.
Victor retired from DOD Civil Engineering at Ft. Bragg. He loved gardening, woodworking, construction and was able to build his retirement home with the help of his son. He never met a stranger and taught us humility and kindness. He spent his life helping others.
The family wishes to acknowledge First Health Hospice for the care and dignity given to Victor in his transition to Heaven. The family would also like to thank First Health Moore Regional Hospital and St. Joseph’s In the Pines for their outstanding Care.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Cumberland Memorial Gardens with Father Jack Kelly officiating. A luncheon will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Hall, 1000 Andrews Road following the service to celebrate Victor’s life with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association of N.C. 3800 Shamrock Dr. Charlotte, N.C. 28315
