Wilma McDuffie Obituary

Wilma Louise McDuffie went to Heaven to be with Jesus on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 after a long battle with COPD, Wilma was born in Bladen County, NC on March 26, 1923 to Myrtise and Elbert McDuffie.
The family, which by then included younger sister Mavis, moved to Fayetteville where Wilma attended Massey Hill School, graduating as Valedictorian. After graduation, she went to work in the office at Burlington Industries Lakedale Plant, later working at the St. Paul’s Plant before retiring.
Wilma was a talented artist, working in oils, pastels, and pen and ink. Many years ago, she sketched Victory United Methodist Church which her family attended. That sketch is still used on their bulletin covers. She was also a talented photographer. She was a great cook, always in charge of making family birthday cakes and holiday cakes, pies and other goodies. She loved music, art, poetry, reading, family history, the beach, and, most of all, her family.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Marshall Bryant. She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Lisa Bryant and Marisa and Tripp English. She is also survived by great-nephew Marshall Bryant English.
A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 21 at 3pm at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. in Fayetteville.
The family asks that any memorials be made to Victory United Methodist Church, where as a young woman, Wilma taught a children’s Sunday School class. We mourn her loss, but rejoice that her suffering is over. She can breathe! She can hear! And she has met her Lord and the many family members and friends that went before her. We will see her again in Heaven, and are blessed to have had such a precious, precious woman as our aunt.
