Alda Cox Holmes, 89, of Fayetteville, died April 17, 2014 after a long illness. She is daughter of the late Charlie F. Cox and Pearlie Thomas Cox. Mrs. Holmes was a dedicated teacher in the Cumberland County school system for over 30 years and a founding member of Peace Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Thomas Nickels Holmes, Jr. of Fayetteville; her daughters, Carol Dillard of Raleigh and Cheryl Holmes of Fayetteville; her sons, Gary of Black Mountain, Bill of Youngsville, and Chris of Pittsburgh, PA; her 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mrs. Holmes' funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church, Sanford. The Reverends Sandy Williams and Tom Spence will officiate. Burial will follow at Barbecue Church Cemetery, Sanford. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 22, from 5 to 7 pm at the Jernigan Warren Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Mrs. Holmes' funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church, Burial will follow at Barbecue Church Cemetery, Sanford. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 22, from 5 to 7 pm at the Jernigan Warren Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
