Mr. Alfred Evander Smith, 63, of 204 Hopedale Street, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in his home. Mr. Smith was retired from Rankin Brothers. A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2008, at 3 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel with the Revs. Elex Tyler and Louis Pender officiating. The burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 36 years, Annie Jean Smith of the home; two daughters, Joyce Ann Pittman of the home and Karen L. Marsh of Grays Creek; a son, Alfred Sessoms of Eastover; three grandchildren, Michael Marsh, Kailee Marsh, and Christian K. Pittman; and three sisters, Mary Hardee of Hope Mills, Lillie Koble of Fayetteville, and Joyce Bilby of Fayetteville. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 7 to 9 pm.
