Mrs. Alice Hall Ewing Blocker, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, in Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center.
She was loved by many and had a long, rewarding life. Alice was born in Gwinnett County, Ga., and resided in Fayetteville since 1961. Alice retired from civil service as a medical clerk at Womack Army Medical Center. She was a lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Association and, in addition, was the first president of the Lady's Auxiliary. Alice served as chairperson for their national conventions and local chapter activities for many years. For the past 10 years, she worked as a volunteer at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum.
Her husbands, retired Sgt. Maj. O.V. Ewing and Hugh Blocker, preceded Alice in death.
Alice is survived by her son, Hoyt Giles and wife Donna of Littleton; her daughters, Dianne Blanchard of Fayetteville, and Deborah Ewing and husband Gary French of Boulder, Colo.; her sister, Lottie Bowen of Lawrence, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in Cumberland Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Todd Westfall officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
