FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Aline Horne Carter Eaton, of Fayetteville, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, just 12 days shy of turning 90 years old.
A native of Fayetteville, she was born Dec. 24, 1920, the daughter of William Henry Horne and Leetie Sessoms Horne. Aline was lifelong student, artist and world traveler. In her lifetime, she visited the 50 states of the USA and 129 different countries. Her international travels ranged from a car trip to Mexico, to walking the Great Wall of China and having dinner with Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, in the late 1960s on his birthday.
Aline loved travel, but nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Aline attended Stedman High School and graduated valedictorian of class 1937. She attended Campbell College, earning an associate's degree in business administration, and graduated valedictorian of class 1939. She worked as the bookkeeper and office manager for Currie Coal Co. for 38 years.
In 1939, Aline married James Moody Carter Sr., and they were married until his death in 1974. They lived in North Carolina and had two children, James Moody \\"Jimmy\\" Carter Jr. and David Braxton \\"Bracky\\" Carter.
In 1979, Aline married Clifford Eaton. They lived in California and were married until his death in 1991. Both husbands and her son, Jimmy, preceded her in death.
Aline is survived by her son, Bracky Carter and daughter-in-law, Connie Warren Raynor Carter of Greensboro; daughter-in-law, Helen Fox Lee Carter of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brian Lee Carter and wife Wendy Jones Carter of Fayetteville, Mary Elizabeth Carter Taub and husband Richard Mark Taub of Chapel Hill, Aline Hope Carter Avery and husband Allen Porter Avery Sr. of Durham, and Matthew Reed Carter and Holly Jones Carter of Wilmington; great-grandchildren, Nicolas Carter, Kate Carter, Solly Taub, Anna James Taub, Porter Avery, Liza Avery and Matthew Carter.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Fayetteville. A visitation will be at 10 a.m. immediately preceding the memorial service. The Rev. Steve Lloyd will officiate.
