FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Alta Johnson Keen, 97, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, in Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Tryon D. Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at the funeral home.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Keen; and her daughter, Barbara Keen Brooks.
She is survived by her son, Charles Keen and wife Emily of Holly Springs; a sister, Belva Johnson Cherry and husband Bill of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Delbert Brooks, Kathy Craycraft, Brian Keen and Stephen Keen; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Keen, Issac Keen, Chris Craycraft, Shane Craycraft and Kristen Marie Brooks; and two great-great-grandchildren, C.J. Craycraft and Serenity Craycraft.
Alta provided a superb example of a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed doing for them. She also found time and joy to serve as a volunteer in the community. She often said her rewards were the self-satisfaction of helping someone. She was a member of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, the Pilot Club and the American Business Women's Association. She delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered for the Cancer Research Foundation and served on the Habitat for Humanity board of directors. She received the woman of the year award from the Pilot Club.
Flowers are welcome, however, memorials may be made to Wesley Heights United Methodist Church or to one's favorite charity.
Arrangements have been made by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
