Obituary

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of A Johnson Chestnutt Jr, 67 of Fayetteville, who passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family.

Johnson was born in Duplin County on July 31, 1949 to the late Amos Johnson, Sr. and Inez Chestnutt. He graduated from James Kenan High School and received a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from East Carolina University.

Johnson was a Certified Public Accountant, and managing partner of Faircloth, Chestnutt and Company, LLP for over 35 years. He was an active member in the community, including serving as co-chairman of the Fayetteville Rotary Christmas Parade for 17 years, and chairman of the Cumberland County ABC Board. Johnson was also former president and treasurer of the Fayetteville Lafayette Rotary, and was a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

In addition to the community, Johnson was also an active member at First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, elder and church treasurer for many years.

A memorial service honoring Johnson will take place on Friday April 21, 2017 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church.

The family received friends on Thursday April 20th at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Debra; daughter, Morgan Childers and husband Daniel of Concord, NC; two sons, Matt Chestnutt of Fayetteville and AJ Chestnutt III of Charlotte; a step-daughter, Pamela Chan of Fayetteville; two step-sons, Tim Pickett and wife Kathy, and Chris Pickett and wife Lynn; six grandchildren; and an "almost sister," Faye Herring and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 102 Ann Street, Fayetteville NC 28301 .
