EASTOVER - Mrs. Ann Suggs McCall, 74, died peacefully in her home in Eastover on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Bladen County on Aug. 23, 1937, she was the daughter of Maggie S. Knuckles and the late Herbert Suggs. She was the wife of the late Julius A. \\"Billy\\" McCall; mother of a son, Phillip Wayne McCall; grandmother of two, Melinda M. Megill and Matthew R. McCall; and great-grandmother of two, Conner and Devin Megill, all of whom she dearly adored and whom will greatly miss \\"Granny Annie.\\"
Ann enjoyed sewing, yard sales, arts and crafts with the \\"grands\\" and time spent with her son. She loved cooking for her family, serving a chicken pastry that could not be beat at the family reunion competitions. Ann loved \\"rooting\\" and growing plants and flowers.
Ann worked in the textile industry, where she served as Quality Control Director at Kings Point. While there, she certified custom fitted flying suits for A. Shepard, C. Conrad Jr., and J. Swigert for the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center contract. Ann shared a special relationship with her grandparents, brothers and sisters and a closeness with many of her cousins, aunts and uncles who will all deeply miss her. The family thanks all those who helped through this difficult time, with special thanks to Louise Green and Paulette Knuckles for special support and care provided during Ann's final days.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Billy McCall; father, Herbert Suggs; stepfather, Douglas Knuckles; sister, Elizabeth Suggs; and brother, Roderick Knuckles.
Ann is survived by her mother, Maggie; son, Phillip; grandchildren, Melinda and Matthew; great-grandsons, Conner and Devin; brothers, Hubert, Ray and Archie Suggs, and Arnold Knuckles; and sisters, Lynda Manseka and Sylvia Raymond.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 26, 2011, in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Archie Suggs and the Rev. Jim Barbour officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
