Mrs. Barbara Jean Chapman-Nellis, 69, of Williamston, NC, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC.

Barbara was born April 5, 1954, to the late Howard Clark Chapman and Margaret Jean Kerr.  Growing up as a military child gave Barbara the opportunity to travel and instilled in her a love of exploration.  Barbara worked as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for over 30 years in settings ranging from home health, private doctor's offices, to hospitals.  She recently retired after working as a professor at FTCC in the nursing program.  She was a member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville and Williamston Presbyterian Church, Williamston and served as an elder and was active in Presbyterian Women at both churches.  Since retiring she has traveled the Mississippi River, made it to Peggy's Cove in Canada and planned a trip to Alaska for next summer.  Besides traveling, reading was Barbara's favorite hobby.  You often didn't find her without a book "just in case" she had time to read a few pages.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Nellis, Sr. and her grandson, Tylee Fields. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Tanya Anderson (and husband Wil) and Jessica Nellis; her grandson, Kaz Battle-Nellis; her brothers, Doug Chapman (and wife ChaSon), Kirk Chapman (and wife Annette), and Mark Chapman (and wife Barbara).

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 3:00 pm at MacPherson Presbyterian Church, 3525 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303.
