Obituary

Sister Beathrice Carnelius Hill McIntyre departed from this world on Sunday, April 26, 2015, with the secure belief that she would rest in peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015, at 1 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel. The burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Jernigan Warren.

Beathrice Carnelius Hill McIntyre was born on October 22, 1921 in Oak City, North Carolina to the late Archie and Janie Hill. She was preceded in death by her five older siblings; Henrietta, Jimmy, Reatha, Authur, and Cora. The family resided in Fayetteville, North Carolina. During the great depression of the 1930's, many people went hungry; they did not because they lived on a farm owned by their mother which fed many people. When she was young, she enjoyed singing with her sisters. They were called "The Hill Sisters" and sang gospel songs in various churches in the area. One of Beathrice's favorite gospel singers was Sister Rosetta Thorpe. She wanted to sing like her.

On July 13, 1939, Beathrice married John Henry McIntyre (deceased). He said that "Bea was the prettiest girl on the hill." God blessed them with ten healthy children; John Thomas, Shirley Lee, David Lee, Catherine, Milton Lavern, Timothy Phillip, Annie, Jeremiah, Mark Joshua, and Eunice. Eventually, they moved to Portsmouth, Virginia where she was a member of Mount Olive Holiness Church for many years. During that time Elder John H. McIntyre became a minister. In their family, the Word was vigorously studied and taught. Both parents were true believers. Their parental calling was the salvation of their household, and they endeavored to achieve that goal. Beathrice was a devoted Bible student, and Bible reader who often read scripture to her children while she disciplined them. Sister Beathrice was a believer who knew from whom her strength and salvation came. Even after her memory began to fail, she continued to give praise and honor to the Lord. This was evident because she began and /or closed almost everything she said with "By the help of the Lord."

Beathrice grew up in a home with a strong matriarchal influence. At an early age, she was taught the value of work and was motivated to achieve. Although she did not receive the level of formal education she desired, Beathrice never gave up on her desire to be the best she could. She is an inspiration to us all. After her children grew up, she achieved some of her deferred goals: she moved back to North Carolina, got her driver's license, obtained gainful employment, and purchased a small homestead (her farm). She loved to work outside and to see things grow. God blessed her to be an active, energetic person who loved to till the soil. She had a passion for growing things, and she had a big garden that she cared for largely by herself. She spent the last few years of her life at the Golden Living Center in Greenville, North Carolina, a very lovely place, where they took very good care of her.

She leaves memories to be cherished with sons and daughters-in-laws; John Thomas (Veronica), David Lee (Darlene), Milton, Timothy Phillip (Joyce), Jeremiah (Patricia), Mark Joshua (Kimberly); daughters and sons-in-laws, Shirley Lee Tyson White, Catherine Jennings (Maurice), Annie Keaton, and Eunice Ricks (Charles); and a host of grandchildren and several great grandchildren; family, and friends.

We, the family sincerely thank God for the wonderful time granted us with her.
