Obituary

Beatrice "Bea" Z. Reese, of Fayetteville, passed away July 12, 2008, at the Rehabilitation & Health Care Center at Village Green. Bea is survived by her beloved husband of 82 years, John Cleland "J.C." Reese of Fayetteville; two daughters, Beverly Ann Chadeayne of Springfield, Ohio, and Barbara Jane Matthews and husband Jack Matthews of Athens, Ohio; a son, Cleland P. Reese and wife Aileen R. Reese of Fayetteville; as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Bea and J.C. began their married life in Wilmington, Del., where she began work as a dental assistant, in addition to her role as homemaker. Upon the birth of her twin daughters, Bea gave full attention to her very busy schedule of caring for the children and homeplace. A few years later, their son "Cle" was born and in the early 1940s, the family moved to Ashland, Ky., and a year later to Columbus, Ohio, in response to new job assignments for J.C., who was a U.S. Postal Inspector. The family spent many years in Ohio, where Bea developed a longstanding love of flower gardening. Their homestead gardens won several awards. Bea also was active in community charity organizations. In the 1950s, she began work as an administrative assistant in a medical office and subsequently worked as a coordinator of dental student case assignments in the college of dentistry at Ohio State University. In 1985, Bea and J.C. moved to Fayetteville, seeking more moderate winters. They again created wonderful flower gardens at their new home and established a cherished group of new friends through Camp Ground United Methodist Church, where Bea was a member. She was an honorary member of the administrative board and a member of the Golden Elite. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Camp Ground United Methodist Church, with the service immediately following with Pastor David C. Wade and Associate Pastor Dennis Lamm officiating. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp Ground United Methodist Church, 4625 Camp Ground Road, Fayetteville, NC 28314.
