Betsy Pope King, 83, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was born in Sampson County on November 11, 1932 to the late G.A. and Annie Westbrook Pope. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Rebekah Spell and a brother George Pope.
Betsy was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a faithful member of the Happy Friendship Sunday School Class, which she loved dearly. Betsy had a profound impact on the Vander community over the years, including service at the Vander Food Mart and Carter Strawberry Farm. Betsy spent the last few years of her life enjoying fellowship with family and friends. She was full of life and joy and brought happiness to all those around her.
Mrs. King is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles W. King of the home; daughter, Myra K. Anderson of Stedman; granddaughters, Sarah Boswell and husband Bradley of Dunn and Rebekah Anderson and fiancé Kyle Nunnery of Autryville. She is also survived by a brother, Jack Pope of Colorado Springs; son-in-law James Anderson of Autryville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
