Obituary

Betty Floyd Amos, 83, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Betty was born on May 17, 1943, in Sampson County to the late J. Floyd Williams and Vara Bullard Williams.

Betty was a devoted military wife who had the opportunity to travel many places alongside her husband, MSG (Ret.) James Amos. She later retired from J.C. Penney after 27 years of dedicated service as a stockroom associate.

Betty was an active and faithful member of Clement Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. She also enjoyed traveling with the Clement Classics and treasured the friendships and memories made along the way.

A woman who found great joy in the simple things, Betty loved growing flowers and watching her vegetables grow. She was an excellent cook who especially enjoyed teaching others how to cook and preserve vegetables. She loved sitting on her porch watching the hummingbirds and took great pride in keeping her yard beautifully manicured—a task she continued to enjoy until the last few months of her life.

Above all, Betty was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She cherished her family and treasured every moment she was able to spend with them. Her kindness, warmth, love, and devotion to those around her will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, MSG (Ret.) James Amos.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer Amos; Jimmy Amos and wife, Teresa; and Derrick Amos and wife, Sandra; her sister, Gloria Jean Starling; grandchildren, Heather Port and husband, Tanner; Meagan Claucherry and husband, Ryan; Jessica Stephenson and husband, Bryce; and Kristy Smith; and great-grandchildren, Adyson, Logan, Cameron, Taylor, Leah, Hannah, Danny, and Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Clement Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Maxwell Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.
