Obituary

Betty J. Averitt Betty Johnson Averitt, 76, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. Born in Lillington, NC, she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence C. Averitt; her parents, Stanley Ray Johnson, Sr. and Rachel Taylor Johnson; a sister Margaret J. Hester, and a brother, S. Ray Johnson II. Betty grew up in Lillington, NC. She was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church where she served on the Session and as organist for about 20 years. She retired from Cavin's Business Solutions after a lengthy career. Visitation will be at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery on Ramsey Street with the Graveside Service conducted at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. J. Evan Harrison. Betty is survived by two daughters, Sue A. Creighton and her husband, Roy of Raleigh; Ann Callahan and her husband Rusty of Lake Waccamaw; her grandchildren, Suzanne Griffin and husband Mike; Shannon Huffman and husband Jim; Michelle Kornegay, and husband Bo and 5 great grandsons. Additionally, she is survived by sister-in-law Mrs. S. Ray Johnson, very special friends, David and Vickie Chavis and several nieces and nephews. If friends so desire, memorials may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 3997 Sunnyside School Road, Fayetteville, NC, 28312 The family would like to thank the staff at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for their care and kindness during Betty's brief illness. The family would also like to thank David and Vickie Chavis for their unrelenting care and friendship over the years with Betty. Visitation will be at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery on Ramsey Street with the Graveside Service conducted at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. J. Evan Harrison.
