Betty Faye Britt McDonald 81, entered the garden of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 8, 2015. She was surrounded by her children. She was born on December 30, 1933. She was predeceased by her father Oscar Britt and her mother Minnie E. Smith Britt, a younger brother Robert O. Britt. She was also preceded in death by her former husband of 28 years.
Hubert E. McDonald Sr. Betty grew up in Parkton, NC and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1953 from Parkton High School. She then went to Washington D.C. to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1954. She moved backed to Fayetteville and worked for Post Signal at Fort Bragg. Her passion for growing things led her to study Horticulture at Sandhills Community College. She grew prize winning roses and was a member of the American Rose Society and was involved with the planning of the Rose Garden at Fayetteville Technical Community college. She was a member of many organizations; The Royal Horticultural Society, The American Horticultural Society, The American Orchid Society and She were an active leader in the Town &Country Garden Club for 25 years. She started her own business growing and nurturing beautiful orchids with McDonald Orchids and Nursery. She along with friends assisted with raising funds for the building of The Cape Fear Botanical Gardens of which she was a charter member. She managed Belk Garden Shop for many years and lovingly supervised the design and beauty of the church grounds at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church and Highland Presbyterian Church.
Betty is survived by her children, a son, Hubert E. McDonald Jr. and wife Bettina McDonald, a daughter Harriett E. McDonald and nephews and a niece.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 11 o'clock am at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington NC.
