Betty Bullard
Dumas
January 14, 1929 – August 26, 2017
A lifelong resident of Fayetteville, Betty Palmer Bullard Dumas passed away August 26 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Born January 14, 1929, Betty graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1947 and married Raymond Joseph Dumas in 1949. The two were married for 61 years until Ray's passing in 2010. Betty stayed home to raise the couple's daughter, Susan Dumas Godwin, then worked in mortgage banking for 20 years. Betty was raised in the church and attended First Presbyterian Church as a child. She and Ray were founding members of Lafayette Presbyterian and later joined Highland Presbyterian Church where they worshiped for most of their adult lives. She is preceded in death by her husband and her siblings Margaret Bullard Threatt, Robert Harold Bullard, Thomas Raeford Bullard Jr, and Louis Lawrence Bullard. Betty is survived by her daughter Susan Dumas Godwin, son-in-law Prescott Godwin, brother William C. Bullard and grandchildren Lacy Godwin Kells, Harold "Harry" Prescott Godwin Jr, and John Kells. She was able to enjoy the early years of her three great grandchildren John Palmer Kells, Mary Prescott Kells, and Simonne "Simmie" Elizabeth Kells, who have been blessed to know their Nana. She was also a loving aunt to 5 nephews and 2 nieces.
A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 30 at 1pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service in the chapel at 2pm. A Committal will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church.
