Beulah Ann
Carde
August 31, 1933 – June 24, 2016
Mrs. Beulah "Tootsie" Ann Carde, age 82 of Fayetteville, left our earthly presence on Friday, June 24, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Bessie Hale Worley and John Millard Davis.
Her loving husband Richard "Dickie", daughter Beverly Dawn Carde, and brother Butch Worley preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Reginald Dale Carde (Susan) of Lemon Springs, and siblings Wayne and Larry Worley of Henderson, Vickie (Raeford) Hayes of Louisburg, and Brenda (Cecil) Moss of Fayetteville. She also leaves behind her beloved furry companion Haley. Mrs. Carde was born in Henderson, grew up there, and attended Henderson High School, graduating in 1950. She married Richard Carde after meeting him one evening at a local dance. As her husband's career advanced with Roses variety stores, she moved her family to eight different towns. She and the children were often present at his stores during the holidays decorating, putting together toys, wrapping gifts and assembling Easter baskets in the living room of their home. As a fulltime homemaker, Mrs. Carde supported her children in their many endeavors. Her daughter Beverly became a proficient American Saddlebred competitor and placed in numerous events. As her children graduated from college, Mrs. Carde and her husband worked with them in establishing a successful flea market business. Affectionately teased and nicknamed by her son, "Flea Queen", Mrs. Carde worked side by side with her family for more than 30 years at the Raeford Road Flea market. Devastating to the family was the untimely death of Beverly due to a drunk driver. Mrs. Carde volunteered with MADD and held various leadership roles in the Fayetteville Chapter receiving numerous recognitions for her work with the organization. In her late 60's, Mrs. Carde learned to paint with coaching by her son and artist Reggie Carde. She thoroughly enjoyed creating folk-art, still life, rural farm and town scenes with acrylic paints. Family and friends often found her sitting at her kitchen table creating her masterpieces. Her greatest influences were Grandma Moses and Linda Nelson. "I like their art because it makes people happy and I try to do the same with mine" she once said. Her artwork has been displayed at the Temple Theater and was for sale at the Artist Colony in Sanford. To her surprise and shear pleasure she has sold well over twenty-five pieces of her art. Joining Reggie, she assisted in the painting of the children's mural at the "Books At A Steal" bookstore in downtown Sanford. During her illness she focused her art on coloring books and was well equipped with coloring supplies at home and while in the hospital. Visitors and staff often colored with her. To get them started on their own, she would share uncolored pages with them. Time spent and chats during this activity gave her much pleasure. The family is grateful for the love and support offered by neighbors, friends and caretakers from Carillon Assisted Living, Liberty Home Care and Hospice Services and Home Instead Senior Care. In addition they express their sincerest appreciation to the professional staff of the Cape Fear Valley Health System. A service of remembrance will be held at Jernigan Warren Chapel at 2 p.m. on Monday, with burial following in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.jerniganwarren.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sanford Brush and Palette's "Art Angels for Budding Artist" (Art Angels) outreach program and mailed in care of the Sanford Brush and Palette Club to PO Box 4886, Sanford NC 27331.
