Bishop Jesse F. Williams, 87, of Fayetteville, N.C., passed from this life Wednesday, August 27th, at home surrounded by his wife and children.
Visitation will be at First Church, 2813 Cumberland Rd., Monday evening between the hours of 6:00-9:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, 3:00-5:30 PM.
A memorial service will commence at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, immediately following visitation.
Bishop Williams was the founding pastor of First Church, which was launched in January, 1966, and served as Senior Pastor of the congregation for forty-two years, until age 80.
He served in several executive administrative capacities with the United Pentecostal Church, International, including Superintendent of the North Carolina District, Assistant General Superintendent of the UPCI. In addition, Rev. Williams was the Founding Chairman of Urshan Graduate School of Theology in St. Louis, MO., and was honored to receive their first Honorary Doctorate of Divinity.
Prior to his forty-two years of full time ministry, Rev. Williams was Plant Engineer of Babcock & Wilcox in Wilmington, N.C., and served as the President of the Industrial Management Club. His connection to the corporate world continued during his tenure in Fayetteville, including serving as Corporate Secretary of Hercules Steel Company.
Bishop Williams is survived by his spouse of 67 years, Sue C. Williams; two sons, Rev. C. Patton Williams (Corliss) of Ocala, FL., Rev. Michael J. Williams (Debra) of Apopka, FL.; two daughters, Sue Ann Hall (Michael), and Fay Elizabeth Suite (Jeff), both of Fayetteville; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Elizabeth Bland (Walter) of Lake Wylie, S.C.
