Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Bobbie Joyce White Edge, 79, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 24, 2010. She had fought a brave and courageous two-year battle overcoming a brain injury that took the speed out of her step but never her gentle, loving spirit. She was a true Christian with a servant's heart. Bobbie Edge was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Walter White; her daughter, Mary Lisa Denise Edge; and her granddaughter, Kristin Kerry O'Sullivan. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Bush O'Sullivan of Raleigh, Martha Edge DeGlandon and husband Darrell of Frisco, Texas, and Nancy Suzanne Edge of Fayetteville; sons, Donald W. Edge Jr. and wife Jan of Fayetteville and Todd M. Edge and wife Debbie of Fayetteville; sister, Juanita Beard and husband JR of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Heather, Paul, Christi, Chad, Damon, Wesley, David, Dorilea, Devin, Darci, Dustin, Bradley, Misty and Charlie; and 26 great-grandchildren. Bobbie Edge was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Cumberland County to Mary Cain White and Walter Samuel White. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for more than 40 years. Her early work experience included earning her cosmetology license and ownership of her own salon, where she was loved and respected by all of her customers for many years. In the early 1960s, she and her late husband, Donald W. Edge Sr., founded Blown Rite Insulation Company in Fayetteville and opened several branch offices throughout two states. For over 45 years, she devoted herself to the company she co-founded, its employees and its customers. She was a proud member of the Vander Community Civic Association, where she worked countless hours as a volunteer in numerous roles, raising funds to improve and better the community. Bobbie loved baking and giving to others more than herself. She also loved writing, shopping and, most of all, people. Her favorite hobby was fishing, especially at the Ocean Isle Pier. She was a huge fan of NASCAR and N.C. State University Wolfpack sports, and she rarely missed watching a race or a game. Bobbie leaves a legacy of selfless service to others, endless generosity, unconditional love and forgiveness, and commitment to faith, family and community.
