FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Retired U.S. Army SFC Bobby L. Tucker, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He was born May 11, 1925, in Kemp, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Minnie Lee Fortenberry Tucker and Barney F. Tucker and his brother Maurice Tucker.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Massey Tucker and a son, Terry Lee Tucker; two sisters, Bonita Nell Cervelloni (Joe), Henderson, Nevada, Mary Katheryne Manners (Ed), one brother, Billy Frank Tucker (Sarah), Henderson, Nevada; one niece, Rachael Manners Pratte (Eric); two nephews, Patrick Manners (Kathy) and Harry Lee Cervelloni.
He entered the military service in June, 1943, with the U. S. Army Airborne and attended the first Advanced Medical Course, being a licensed Practical Nurse. After serving in World War II and the Korean War, he retired in 1964, and helped organize the Cumberland Sheltered Workshop, being the Supervisor of Woodwork and later the Director Of the Sheltered Workshop. He worked there for 14 years. He was a Master Parachutist; a Jump Master; His special honors and Campaigns were: Ardennes, Rhineland - Central Europe Campaigns; Combat Medical Badge; two Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment; Arrowhead for Parachute Badge with one combat star (Rhine Jump), two Battle Stars; National Defense Service Medal Second Award Combat Medical Badge; Korean Defense Service Medal; 38th Anniversary Commemorative Korean War Service Medal 1953-1991 Korean War Service Medal and Letter of Appreciation Awarded on the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War and presented by Kim Dae-jung, President of the Reputlic of Korea; Good Conduct Medals.
He continued his membership in the Baptist Church of Lake Providence, LA where he was baptized before entering the U. S. Army. Family was the most important thing to him and his hobbies were fishing, boating and traveling.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 1 pm in First Christian Church on Ft. Bragg Road with Rev. Dr. Bennett Gerardy officiating. The burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 to 12:45 at the church on Thursday prior to the service.
