Burnise Perry, 85 of Fayetteville, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021, at his residence, with his family by his side.
Burnise was born on November 24, 1935, in Knott County, Kentucky to the late Nicodemus Perry and Mary Bates Perry. A Vietnam Veteran, he was retired from the U.S. Army as MSG and served as a pilot and air traffic controller. He also retired from the City of Fayetteville as a Traffic Supervisor.
His military awards included the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation. Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tilden Perry.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna Louise Perry; daughters, Debra L. Lake (Ken), Judith I Cowart (Randall); sons, Nick K. Perry (Susan), Burnise Perry, Jr. (Kay); grandchildren, Andrea Perry, Jacquelyn Perry, Tim Full, Donna Gruen, Justin Lake, Christine Norris, Jennifer Rivera, Joshua Perry, Devan Perry, Briana Perry and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Northwood Temple. Burial will follow with military honors in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
