Carl
Barefoot
October 26, 1940 – December 8, 2021
Carl Barefoot, 81 of Fayetteville passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at his home with his family by his side.
Carl Barefoot was born in Johnston County, NC on October 28, 1940, to Hardie and Pearl Barefoot. He was the third of 4 brothers. They were a simple, hardworking family of farmers.
He excelled at Baseball at Salemburg High School as a catcher.
He served the country that he loved in the United States Navy from 1958 - 1961 on DD-832, the USS Hanson in the Pacific Theatre during the Cold War as a boilerman.
In November of 1968, he met Betty Jean Williford. They married May 24, 1969. They would be together for the next 52 years.
He started work at Rohm and Haas, later Monsanto, in Cedar Creek in 1969, and he would work there as an Industrial Mechanic until he retired in 1999.
On December 20, 1974, they would have a son, Christopher Carl Barefoot.
After retirement he still kept busy. He loved to fish with his best friend Stan. He had a yearly fishing trip with his brother MB for their birthdays.
He loved to work around the house, cleaning the yard and fixing anything that needed it. He spent countless hours with Betty working at Providence Baptist Church, which would later become Refuge Church. He would continue to until he was no longer able.
At heart he was a tinkerer. Nothing gave him more pleasure than fixing something instead of calling some else to do it, whether at home, at the church, or for his friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Godwin Barefoot, father, Hardie Barefoot, two brothers, Robert Edward Barefoot and Billy Ray Barefoot, and a sister-in-law, Joan Barefoot.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Refuge Church 1268 Ireland Dr, Fayetteville, NC 28304 . Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Barefoot; son, Christopher Carl Barefoot and fiancé, Shana Grissett; brother, MB Barefoot and wife, Wilma Jean Barefoot; sister-in-law, Charlene Lewis; nephews, Bobby and Gerry Barefoot; and niece, Lisa Papenfus.
