Mrs. Carmen Nera Betancourt, 87,of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Carmen was born July 16, 1936, in the Philippines.  She moved to Fayetteville in 1961.  Mrs. Betancourt enjoyed spending time with her friends at her store in the Bragg Boulevard Flea Market and playing bingo, traveling, and winning on the slot machines.  Her family and friends will remember her as one lucky lady.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mariano Nera and Aveline Peralta Almendralo Nera; sisters, Letisha Nera and Sally Britton (Rex); daughter-in-law, Maletha McClyman; stepdaughter, Deborah Betancourt; granddaughter, Christina Garrett.

Carmen, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother is survived by her husband, Stanley Morris Betancourt; daughters, Linda Heiskanen (Jeff) and Betty McClyman; son, Robert McClyman; stepdaughter, Roberta Garrett; stepson, Robert Betancourt (Karen); grandchildren, Michelle Clonts (Allen), Holly Johnston (Todd), Richie Garrett (Crysty), Mathew Heiskanen, Lee Burchette; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, NC 28301.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
