FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Carol K. Hayner, 69, of 215 Kinlaw Road in Fayetteville, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, in her home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, S.C. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville. Carol was born Dec. 12, 1942, in Ottawa, Ill., to John and Germanus "Monnie" Houltram. She married Robert "Bob" Hayner on July 9, 1966, at St. Patrick Church in Ottawa. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Carol was employed by Cumberland County Schools and served as a teacher, assistant principal and director of child nutrition. She received her bachelor's degree from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis.; her master's degree from the University of Illinois; and her doctorate of education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Elizabeth McGowan and husband Scott of Fayetteville; a grandchild, Molly Mackenzie McGowan; and a brother, Phil Houltram of Bullhead, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Monnie; and her sister, Madonna Brown. Carol loved her flowers, traveling the world with her Bob, spending time with daughter Liz and granddaughter Molly, watching the sun coming up on the beach and rejoicing in her faith in our Loving God.
