Obituary

Hope Mills, NC Mrs. Carol Mastroberti-Mayo, 53, died Saturday surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10am at Highland Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Carol was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Highland Presbyterian Church. She loved deeply and in return was deeply loved. God blessed David with nearly seventeen years of marriage to Carol and they both were blessed with a son, Hunter and her stepson Zachary Brennan. Carol graduated Valedictorian from Battery Creek High School in Beaufort, SC in 1976 and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1981. She received her first Masters Degree from UNC in 1983 and in 1989 she attained her second Masters Degree and became a licensed psychologist; a profession well-suited to the traits that were the essence of Carol. Compassion, grace, wisdom, courage, gentle strength, kind and genuine loving spirit best defines her. Carol, a talented musician, played the flute, guitar and keyboard. She had a beautiful, inspiring and glorious voice and sang professionally which helped pay her way through college. Carol absolutely loved her adopted community and shared tirelessly her time and efforts to the many organizations and events in and of the surrounding Cumberland County area. She held a position on the board of Directors for the March of Dimes and the Karen Chandler Cancer Fund and was a past member of Professional Women of Fayetteville and Cumberland County Business Network. Carol taught psychology at Campbell University. She and her husband David owned and operated both Owens and Bordeaux Florists. As a businesswoman, psychologist and educator, she was a positive influence and touched many lives; she strived to help and heal both professionally and personally. Carol battled her brain tumor as she lived her life; with awe-inspiring courage, incredible grace, fierce determination and above all, tender love for all who knew her. She led a full and accomplished life leaving cherished memories of her life's song composed of her many kind words and deeds. Surviving are her husband David; one son Hunter; one step-son Zachary Brennan; her parents Michael and Jean Mastroberti of Beaufort, SC; one sister Susan Dodd and her husband Tom; and one brother Gary Mastroberti and his wife Ann.
