Obituary

Mrs. Carolyn Spell Green Carter, 67, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 Carolyn Spell Carter was the first child born to Louis and Pattie Rose Spell. She was born October 30, 1945 in San Francisco, California. Carol was a graduate of Stedman High School and East Carolina University. Carol married the late Richard Hunter Green of New Bern, North Carolina. They had two beautiful boys, Richard Hunter Green Jr., and Jason Todd Green. Hunter lives in Fayetteville with his wife, Tammy. Jason lives in Key West, Florida with his life partner, Michael Zinno. Carol's pride and joy was Nathaniel Green. Nathaniel and his wife Jessica live in Fayetteville and are proud parents of Carol's great-grandchild, Hailee Lynn. Carol was equally proud of Michelle and Lee Ann and their children. Carol was married to Wayne D. Carter in 1990. As Carol told me, he was the love of her life and her one great passion. Carol taught in Havelock, North Carolina until 1980 when she and the boys moved to Fayetteville. Carol taught in Cumberland County School System from 1980 until her retirement in 1999, Carol retired as the Assistant Principal from Stedman Primary. Retirement did not sit well with Carol, so she began teaching at Saint Patrick's Catholic School in August 2000 until the time of her death. She loved her children and spoke of them with warm affection and frustration when they did not perform to her standards. Carol gave to everyone but herself. She loved her sons beyond measure. You could see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice every time she spoke of them. Carol loved her sisters, Nancy Gwynne and Ginger, unselfishly because that is what she did. She took care of everyone but herself. She always put herself last. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 5:00pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel, the family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. She is survived by her loving sons Hunter Green and wife Tammy, Jason Green and life partner Michael Zinno, Grandson, Nathan Green and wife Jessica, great-granddaughter Hailee Lynn Green, Sisters, Nancy Spell, Gwynne Bennett, Ginger Raynor and husband Ricky Raynor.
