FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Catherine Almond Barrett, 61, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully yesterday Thursday, May 21, 2015, in Cape Fear Valley Hospital due to complications from breast cancer.

Cathy was raised in Salisbury by her two parents, Jacob and Ann Almond. She earned her Bachelor of Science from UNC Chapel Hill in medical technology. Most of her career was fulfilled at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in the microbiology lab. She was an avid kayaker and loved all aspects of nature. Many remember Cathy for her loving heart and how she cared deeply for all of her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas F. Barrett; son, James Barrett and his wife, Sarah; son, David Barrett and his wife, Emily. She was grandmother to three grandchildren, Claire Barrett, Alice Barrett and Dean Barrett. She is also survived by her sisters, Cyndi Jones and Carol Almond; and her brother, Jacob Almond.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 23, 2015, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cape Fear Valley's Friends of the Cancer Center.
