Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Catherine \\"Katie\\" Rapin Bryant of Fayetteville passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, in Haymount Rehab Center after an extended illness. Katie was born Jan. 28, 1927, in Crookston, Minn., the only child of Napoleon and Enger Rapin. Katie retired from Cumberland County schools after more than 20 years of teaching. She then continued serving others through Cumberland Interfatih Hospitality Network, Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch and many other activities with Haymount United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the Barrington Sunday school class. Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William \\"Bill\\" Bryant; and her daughters, Mary Bryant and Brenda Bryant Stiles. She is survived by her son, William \\"Bill\\" Bryant Jr. and wife Elaine; two grandsons, Brandon Flayler and wife Colleen, and Cody Flayler, all of Tipp City, Ohio. Katie is also survived by her loving son-in-law, Scott Stiles and wife Elizabeth of Summit, N.J. Also feeling Katie's loss is her dear friend and caregiver of the past 13 months, Anne Hodges and husband Pate of Fayetteville, along with brothers-in-law, Douglas Bryant and wife Virginia of Stedman and Tom Bryant and wife Emily of Virginia Beach, Va.; and sister-in-law, Ruth Maxwell of Covington, La. \\"Aunt Cathy\\" will also be missed by many cherished nieces and nephews. There will be a funeral service held Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Haymount United Methodist Church, preceded by a visitation from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the commons room of the church. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Haymount United Methodist Church, 1700 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303, or to Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch, 531 Hillsboro St., Fayetteville, NC 28301. Services are entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
