Obituary

Catherine Ann Majka, 80, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born on August 2, 1946, in Camden, New Jersey, to the late Phillip William Mitchell and Catherine Ann Barron Mitchell. In 1982, Catherine made Fayetteville her home when her husband’s career with Kelly Springfield brought their family to the area. Fayetteville remained her home for the next 44 years.

Catherine retired from the Department of Social Services. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose greatest joy was her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Catherine also had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel like family. She was a mother to many of her sons’ friends throughout their lives, and her home was always open to all. Her kindness, warmth, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Catherine was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where her faith was an important part of her life.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Stephen Majka; her son, Joseph Daniel Majka; her brother, Philip Mitchell; and her sister, Mary Ann Mitchell Burkhardt.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Stephen Francis Majka and Daniel James Majka; brothers, Harry Mitchell and Michael Mitchell; sisters, Theresa McKenna and Marie Wilgus; grandchildren, Triston Lee Jacobs, Alexa Nichole Majka, and Koi Majka; her dear friends, Heather Jernigan and Nancy Paul; and her beloved “lap baby,” Luna. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who were blessed by her love and kindness.

Catherine will be remembered for her generous heart, her devotion to her family, and the way she welcomed others into her home and into her life. Her love will continue to live on through the many people she touched.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
