Pinkston Jr., Charles Sidney "Charlie" FAYETTEVILLE - Charles Sidney "Charlie" Pinkston Jr., 69, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., died Monday, March 30, 2009, in his home after a lengthy illness of lung cancer. Charlie was born on Nov. 10, 1939, in Fayetteville and grew up here. He is survived by his mother, Georgia Kirksey Pinkston of Charlotte; his wife, Linda Morgan Pinkston of Fort Myers and formerly of Fairmont; his daughters, Pamela Melton and her husband, James, of Charlotte, Kathy Mohn and her husband, Bryan, of Maxton, Georgia "Gigi" Thompson and her husband, "Cowboy," of Laurinburg, and Donna Hayes and her husband, Joe, of Chadbourn; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Charlie graduated from North Carolina State University. He was an industrial architect his entire career. Prior to graduation, Charlie served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Charlie was an avid golfer and sports fan. He enjoyed watching basketball, football and NASCAR racing. Charlie was a sport fisherman who loved to go deep-sea fishing. Charlie's passion was the sea, her mysteries and the wide varieties of fish he would catch. His nickname was "King Mack." Charlie was a life master bridge player and spent his retirement enjoying this pastime. Later in life, Charlie became involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, traveling the state of North Carolina carrying his message of hope and recovery. He touched the lives of many in need. His kindness and concern will be missed. Charlie was truly loved and will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Memories of Charlie and his passion for life will live on forever by those who cared for him. The funeral and burial will be a bagpipe service at 1p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, in Cross Creek Cemetery, Fayetteville. The family will gather at 11a.m. prior to the service at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Arrangements made by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville. The funeral and burial will be a bagpipe service at 1p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, in Cross Creek Cemetery, Fayetteville. The family will gather at 11a.m. prior to the service at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville
