FAYETTEVILLE - Charles W. \\"Jack\\" Hughes, 81, of 2128 Elvira St., died Monday, April 20, 2009, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Hughes was retired as a firefighter and dispatcher from the Fayetteville Fire Department's Haymount Station No. 2. He was owner of C.W. Hughes Fire Extinguisher Sales & Services for many years. He was an Army veteran.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and was adored by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Randal Bremer officiating. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, April 21, 2009, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou Pope Hughes of the home; two daughters, Diane Hughes Hayes and husband Ronald of Wilmington and Carolyn McLaughlin and husband Greg of Hickory; two brothers, Bill Hughes of Fayetteville and Webb Hughes of Selma, Ala.; a sister, Ann Colburn of Houston; and three grandchildren, Katie McLaughlin, Anna McLaughlin and Curtis Hayes.
