Obituary

Mr. Charles B. Stephens, 82, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in his home. He was born May 20, 1935.

Charles served in the National Guard for 2 years before he was drafted in the U.S. Army. He served 2 years, with 18 months in Germany and was discharged in March 1960. Charles was employed by Public Works Commission for 43 years and retired as a sub-station foreman on May 1, 1996.

He was a member of Parker's Grove United Methodist Church in Linden, supervised the building of the Fellowship Hall, and was chairman of the cemetery committee. When Parker's Grove was closed by the Charge Conference, he joined St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. Charles enjoyed his many trips to Holden Beach and cruising on Carnival ships.

He is predeceased by parents Marley and Annie Ruth Stephens of Erwin and his brother, Harold Stephens.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Allene Godwin Stephens of Linden; sister, Judy Stephens Neal and husband Tom of Liberty; brother, Danny Stephens and wife Joanne of Charlotte; sister Ellen Ballard and husband Gary of Fayetteville, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 3 P.M. at Lafayette Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Scott Foster. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service from 2-3 P.M. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
