RALEIGH - Ms. Cheryl Richardson Futris, of Raleigh, died Sunday, March 28, 2010. She was 46 years old.
She leaves behind her mother, Mary Richardson of Fayetteville; two daughters, Miss Lindsay Michelle Futris and Miss Megan Kristen Futris of Raleigh; two sisters, Ms. Lisa Richardson Waller of Atlanta, and Mrs. Teresa Richardson Tosi and husband Dr. John Tosi of Memphis, Tenn.; and a brother, Hollis Damon Richardson Jr. and wife Vicki of Fayetteville. She also leaves behind three nieces and four nephews; as well as countless friends and loved ones.
Born Cheryl Lynn Richardson on Sept. 14, 1963, in Chapel Hill, she was loved by so many. She was the daughter of Mary Richardson and the late Hollis Damon Richardson. She graduated from South View Senior High School in Fayetteville in 1981, and subsequently from Fayetteville Technical Community College with a degree in dental hygiene. She embarked on a career in Raleigh and performed her work during two periods in her life. She worked in the field full time as a hygienist and office manager until the birth of her oldest daughter, Lindsay.
She had a knack for decor and design. She could turn a simple piece of fabric into a work of art with her talented touch. She transformed her life and the lives of others by becoming a profoundly talented artist and seamstress, designing homes across the state of North Carolina and across the country, including the North Carolina governor's mansion, among other impressive homes. In recent years, Cheryl returned to her work in dental hygiene, most recently working for Dr. Lynn Godwin in Cary, while continuing her sewing and design career on the side.
Cheryl sewed the fabric of our lives together. She always had a smile on her face and a kind, energetic word. She was passionate about music and particularly loved country music, sharing her love for music with everyone who knew her. She attended countless concerts and met too many country artists to mention. Her favorite song was \\"Soak up the Sun\\" by Sheryl Crowe.
Cheryl loved her family and was a caregiver for her mother, Mary Richardson. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Megan, 13, and Lindsay, 19, and an amazing sister to Damon, Lisa and Teresa. She was loved by her boyfriend, Mike Higgins of Durham, and her friends and extended family. She will be greatly missed by them all.
