Childs Eugene "Gene" McMurray, 85, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at North Carolina State Veterans Home. He had been a resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina, for 45 years. Gene was born July 8, 1928, in Rock Hill, SC. He was the son of the late Landry and Pearl McMurray. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Byars, and his brothers, Huey McMurray and Edward McMurray. He served in the United States Army during The Korean War. He was employed by and retired from Fayetteville Publishing Company after 22 years. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy S. McMurray; a son Childs Eugene "Gene" McMurray, Jr. and wife Doris Ann of Fayetteville , NC; two daughters Deborah M. Johnson and husband Phil of Fayetteville, NC and Cheryl M. Koballa and husband Patrick of Wrightsville Beach, NC; grandchildren Kristina M. Schell and husband Greg, Kristopher McMurray, Justin Nichols, Joshua Nichols, Matthew Nichols, Phillip Johnson, Erin Koballa and Kasey Koballa; and two great-grandchildren Daniel Schell and Molly Schell. He was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church and the Barrington Bible Class. The visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Haymount United Methodist Church followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. The entombment will be immediately afterwards in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haymount United Methodist Church, 1700 Ft. Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303 or to the charity of one's choice in his name. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 12:30pm to 2pm in Haymount United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service in the church sanctuary at 2pm, Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens on Raeford Road.
