Christopher Anthony Basile Sr., 76, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 12:30 Wednesday in St. Patrick Catholic Church by Father Birch. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Basile was a retired veteran of the Army Special Forces. He served with distinction in Korea, Vietnam and the Dominican Republic. Mr. Basile also served with distinction in training capacities in the Middle East and South America following his retirement from active duty. He was a Michigan and Ohio middleweight Golden Glove Champion coached by Joe Garmo. Mr. Basile was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School and played four years of football, coached by Ben Hellenberg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia H. Basile; and three brothers, John, Jim, and Pat Basile. Mr. Basile is survived by two brothers, William Ziegler and wife Mary of Missouri, and Ignatius Basile of Missouri. He is survived by three sisters, Kitty and husband Martin Nadeau of Missouri, Mary Rose Kelly of Missouri and Carmella Hesson of Missouri; a daughter, Angela and husband Jon Powell of Maryland; and three sons, James H. Hall and wife Kathy of Washington State, Jeffery M. Basile and wife Terri of Texas and Dominic A. Basile Sr., and wife Nicole of North Carolina. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Amy Shelton and husband Joshua of North Carolina; Ashley and Holly Basile of Texas, and Michelle and Dominic A. Basile Jr. of North Carolina. Mr. Basile is also survived by loving friend, Diep King.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
