FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Bessie Cleo Powell Hubbard set sail for calmer waters and a brighter shore on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian; parents, John Powell and Grace Smith; and siblings, Jack Powell and Lola Mae Nace. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sherrie Glass and husband Len; her son, Dr. Steve Hubbard and wife Susan; as well as her seven grandchildren, Beth, Jeff, Larry, Allen, Jason, Amelia and Sawyer; and eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, Brendan, Brooke, Kylee, Savannah, Abbey and Libby. Numerous extended family members and special friends will also miss her joyful spirit. Cleo's courage and graceful determination leave a legacy for her family and all who knew her. She stood strong and faced adversity with great dignity and grace. Her love of nature, especially the beach, leaves wonderful memories for her family of times spent together. She also instilled in her family and others a love for music. Her children grew up with a piano and singing as a regular part of their daily lives. Through many years of faithful service as a music director she also taught this love of music to many others. She will be remembered for the impact she made in their lives through her love of music. She was an active member of First Baptist Baptist Church of Fayetteville, where she sang in the choir and attended the M&M Sunday school class; she was a member of the Fayetteville Area Board of Realtors; was a retired Realtor and bookkeeper; and former music director and charter member of Faymont Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 201 Anderson St., Fayetteville, with the Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield Jr. officiating.
