DURHAM - Clifford Allen Smoot, 62, of Durham and formerly of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in the VA Medical Center in Durham. He was a veteran of Korea, Vietnam and Kuwait. He retired from the Army National Guard. He graduated from Seventy-First High School and was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College. He was a former math teacher. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Smoot. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at noon in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. He is survived by his wife, Beth Bonner Smoot of the home; his former wife, Martha Edwards Smoot of Rocky Mount; his mother, Lona Mae Smoot of Fayetteville; two daughters, Margaret Claire Smoot of Fayetteville and Katherine Elizabeth Smoot of Rocky Mount; and a sister, Christine Bonnie Smoot of Fayetteville.
