Clyde Evans, Sr, 84, was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina to the late Geneva Sullivan on February 7, 1926. He passed away in his home in Fayetteville on July 24, 2010. He was enlisted and completed his mission in the United States Navy. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. At an early age he was adopted by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Janie Pea Evans of Winnsboro, South Carolina. Mr. Evans relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he worked for 21 years in the New York Transit System until his retirement. He lived and worked a total of 60 years in NY before moving to Fayetteville to live with his daughter Joann. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Brooklyn, New York for years. Later he confessed Christ and was baptized at and became a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Mae Fair-Evans, Four Foster sisters, Ruth Harrison, Ina Small, Irene Mobley and Janie Johnson, Two stepdaughters, Isabelle Evans and Ella Rae, Three brother-in-laws, Mr. Sammie Fair, Jr. Johnnie Fair, Oscar Fair, and one sister-in-law, Justine Fair Minter.
The family will receive friends Wednesday July 28, 2010 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville, the funeral service will follow in the chapel at 7:00pm, burial will take place in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY on Friday July 30, 2010 at 11:30am.
He is survived by two sons, Lester Evans and wife Darrellyn of Atlanta, Georgia and Clyde Evans, Jr of Bridgeport, Connecticut, three daughters, Joann McClurkin-Powell of Fayetteville and husband Habdon of Fayetteville, NC, Cheryl Fair of Long Island City, NY and Christine Fair-Johnson of Jamacia, West-Indies. 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren And one sister-in-law, Nella Fair of Brooklyn, NY and a host of Nieces, Nephews, relatives and friends and other beloved extended family.
