Obituary

Mr. Clyde Thomas Wood, Sr., 89, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the Carolina Inn at Village Green. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock am in MacPherson Presbyterian Church with Mr. Hank Bellomy officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 to 7 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. Mr. Wood was a very successful land and building developer, having a hand in the development of at least 15 subdivisions and the construction of over 4,000 homes. He was a proud member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Session. He served on the NC State Land Council; was the first Chairman and Founder of Cumberland Bank; served on the Board of Adjustments; and numerous other civic endeavors. In 2006, he received the Pillar of the Industry Award from the Fayetteville Homebuilders Association. He also, in 2007, received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Center for Entrepreneurship at Methodist University. Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith Monroe Wood of the home; daughter, Deborah Wood Steadman and husband, Michael Howard Steadman of Fayetteville; son, Clyde Thomas Wood, Jr. and wife Martha Beck Wood of Fayetteville; a sister, Doris Jean Parsons of Fayetteville; 8 grandchildren, Adam Michael Steadman of Wilmington, Catherine Wood Parker and husband Brian, of Morehead City, Megan Wood Duggins and husband Wade of Fayetteville, Grant William Steadman of Southport, Caroline Steadman Williams and husband Dunc of Atlanta, Rebecca Wood Foss and husband Tyler of Atlanta, Cameron Holt Steadman of Charleston and Clyde Thomas Wood III of Raleigh; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Parker and Mary Charles Duggins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Wood Harris. The family would like to give a special thanks to all his private caregivers from Home Instead and the staff at the Carolina Inn.
