FAYETTEVILLE - Staff Sgt. Colin D. McGee, 23, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 10, 2016. He was born on February, 25, 1993 in Fayetteville, NC, where he lived until joining the US Air Force in March, 2012. He was currently stationed at Nelis AFB in Nevada.
While attending Cape Fear High School, Colin worked at Food Lion at Cape Fear Plaza. He joined the US Air Force in March, 2012 and had his basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating basic training, Colin was station at Eielson AFB in Fairbanks, Alaska. While in Alaska he enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing hockey, but this is where the joy of his life, Rodney, was born.
In 2014 Colin was deployed to the United Arab Emerits for six months. Colin was briefly stationed at Beale AFB in California before transferring to Nelis AFB in Nevada. Colin was known for his never ending compassion and beautiful, warm smile that took up his whole face. He was generous with his kindness and could brighten anyone's day with a joke. He was a best friend to many and could encourage you with his wit. He was a sweet, loving person and his life impacted not only his family but also his friends and military family. He is lovingly remembered and will be painfully missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Douglas McGee.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Crystal McGee and son Rodney, mother, Gina Evans and husband John; father, Rodney Kyle McGee and wife, Carol; his twin brother, Jacob McGee and wife Cypress; brothers Noah McGee and John Olson; sisters Kelsey Hall and husband Heath, Allison Gibson and Hannah Gibson; grandparents Ted and Wanda Griffin, grandmother Sherylle McGee, great grandparents Russell and Louise Haddock and great grandmother, Sharon Opperman.
Colin's funeral with full military honors will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Down Syndrome Society at PO Box 4916, New York, New York 10185
