Obituary

Cora Bell Blanton, 92 of Wilmington, passed away at her residence on Monday, March 29, 2021.

Cora was born January 7, 1929 in Green Mountain, NC, and was a native of Yancey county. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. Lee and Harriet McCourry Byrd, whom she loved dearly.

Cora loved gardening and was so proud of her gardens and her yard full of azaleas and dogwoods. She loved her cats and Peewee, her chihuahua.

While living in Spring Lake, she worked at her brother Park's service station and Parker's Dry Cleaners in Fayetteville. After moving to Wilmington, she was employed at Coastal Dry Cleaners. She made many wonderful and loving friends everywhere she lived and worked. She touched so many lives. She loved riding her 3-wheel bicycle. She rode that bike with such pride. She absolutely loved all her children, and she will be greatly missed by them. She could never stop talking about her siblings whom she adored and loved, and it was obvious how much love they had for each other. They were a great example of a loving family.

Cora is survived by her loving brother Walter and his wife Evelyn Byrd of Green Mountain; her loving children, Faye Carpenter and husband Randy of Fayetteville, Charles Allan Blanton and wife Charlotte of Fayetteville, Rodney Blanton and wife Lisa of Southport, Nancy B. Cone and husband David of Salisbury, and her adoring son and caregiver Robert Blanton of Wilmington; grandchildren Chris, Samantha, Tiffany, Crystal, Blaise, Travis, Corey and Morgan; great grandchildren, Brittany, Samantha, Mia, Hisana, Astraea, Bailey and Piper; and a great, great granddaughter; her many Fayetteville Blanton family nieces and nephews; and her many Green Mountain family nieces and nephews. She had a special place in her heart for all her family.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles Blanton in 2016; her parents, Robert E. Lee and Harriet Byrd; her sisters, Shirley, Betty, Edna and Mabel; and her brother, Park.
