Curtis Wayne Akins, 66 of Eastover died May 13, 2016 at Duke University Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Akins; two daughters, Jennifer Dozier and husband Mack Dozier and Ginger Batton and husband Len Batton; brother, Eugene Priore; and two grandchildren, Bethany "Brandi" Dozier and Clarence Mason Batton. Curtis was born February 15, 1950 in Hope Mills, North Carolina. He was raised by his grandparents. He worked as head Maintenance Engineer at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. He retired from the VA in 2009. He loved to be outside fishing, camping, horseback riding, and loved to grow fresh vegetables in his garden. He was a kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was the best husband, father and grandfather anyone could ever ask for. Thank you dad for everything you have taught us. We Love You Daddy and miss you!!! Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 18th, 2016, at 1 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel. The burial will follow at The Akins Family Cemetery in Eastover.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, May 17, from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
