CURTIS CHERRY PITTMAN
FAYETTEVILLE - Mr. Curtis Cherry Pittman, 83, died peacefully at his home in Fayetteville on Thursday, April 14, 2011, after an 18-month battle with brain cancer.
Mr. Pittman is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Edna Earle Moore Pittman, of the home. Also surviving him are his two daughters, Paula Pittman Johnson, of Trinity, and Pamela Pittman Woolen, of Fayetteville. He leaves four grandsons, Matt Woolen and fiance, Candace Rose, Scott Johnson, Chris Johnson and wife, Amber, Thomas Johnson and wife, Tina, and one granddaughter, Kimberly. His great-grandchildren are Nathen Johnson, Alex Johnson, Brittany Johnson, Austin Rose, Aaliyah Rose, and Hallie Rose.
He was born July 13, 1927 to Redden and Annie Lee Cherry Pittman in Tarboro, NC. He was predeceased by his infant son, Curtis Cherry Pittman, Jr. in 1958, his brother, J. T. Pittman, of Portsmouth, VA and recently, his sister, Evelyn Gray Pittman Webb, of Greenville, NC.
He was a 1943 graduate of Tarboro High School. After enlisting in the United States Coast Guard in 1945, he served as a platoon leader and assistant company commander at Curtis Bay Training Station in Baltimore, MD. After discharge, he worked for W. S. Clark & Sons as a bookkeeper. He began his 33-year career with Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Co. in 1950 in Tarboro. He was a member of the Masonic Concord Lodge #58 in Tarboro where he became a Master Mason.
Mr. Pittman moved with CT&T to New Bern in 1956. While there, he and his family joined First Baptist Church where he served in various leadership positions. He was a member of the Masonic St. John
