Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Dan Harrington Stout, 90, of 325 N. Cool Spring St., Fayetteville, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Stout was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Stout, and grandson, Christopher Haithcock. Mr. Stout was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre as a lieutenant JG. After moving to Fayetteville in 1951, Mr. Stout adopted the community and supported bridging the business and military communities. He was a teaching fellow at UNC and taught history in the Wilmington and Chapel Hill school systems. He was a longtime manager of Eutaw Apartments in the Eutaw Shopping Center. He was an active member of the Lions Club and the Lafayette Society and was actively involved with the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau, where he served as past president. Mr. Stout was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He and his wife loved to travel and loved the beach. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ben West officiating. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Stout is survived by two sons, Dan H. Stout Jr. and wife Gina of Matthews, and George W. Stout of Holden Beach; a daughter, Barbara Haithcock and husband Lynn of Fayetteville; a sister, Pauline Crum of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Dan H. Stout III and wife Baker and Jill N. Stout; and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Stout.
