Obituary

David F. Borresen, Colonel, USA, Retired, 69, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2015. He was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on August 20, 1946. David was adopted by Carl and Hazel Borresen in 1951 and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. David was a graduate of Kemper Military School in Booneville, Missouri and earned his bachelor's degree from Central Missouri State University and his master's degree from Webster University. He was commissioned in the United States Army in April of 1969. During his career in the military he served as an Infantry and Special Forces officer. David served two tours of duty in Vietnam and commanded the 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) during Operation Just Cause. He retired from the military in 1994.

Upon his retirement from the military, David worked in the insurance business and as a civilian contractor for CACI and a civilian employee at the United States Army Special Operations Command on Ft. Bragg. Beginning in 2012, David devoted his time to the Carpentry Ministry at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church and to being a great house husband for his working wife. Hard work was David's nature and he was always asking, "What can I do for you?".

Many friends and neighbors came through the door the last two days of his life to express their love, appreciation, and respect for him. It was so touching to see and hear the outpouring of affection that each held in their heart for him. The young and the old came to say goodbye. We know he heard each and every declaration of love and respect that was spoken to him. We take comfort that David was able to start his final journey with the knowledge that he had indeed made a difference in people's lives. It was time to rest for the hard charging, always energetic soldier. Job well done, soldier, now get some rest.

David is survived by his wife, Susan Purtle Borresen of Fayetteville, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Chelle Borresen, Jr. of Fayetteville, and his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Juddson Floris, of Fairfax Station, Virginia; his four grandchildren, Lainey and Fields Borresen and Callum and Max Floris; his sister-in-law Nancy Wagner of Fayetteville, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Thomas Hucks of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses deep appreciation to Dr. Kenneth Manning and his nurse, Vivian Hall of the Cape Fear Valley Cancer Center, for their many years of dedicated care. In addition, heartfelt thanks to Healthkeeperz Hospice nurse, Vickie Lambert and Social Worker Kim Ba. Their compassion and training to the family were invaluable during David's last days.

The family will receive visitors at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2 PM in the main sanctuary.
