Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - David Brumble, born, June 9, 1943, 68, passed away Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2012, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Dave was the only child of the late David Brumbles and Betty Mae Brumbles of Spring Lake. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. The memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel. After spending most of his childhood in Spring Lake, Dave had a full and wonderful adulthood that included earning several graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina and the University of Mexico, allowing him to teach different college level subjects in different parts of the country and exploring rural Mexico and South America, working for National Geographic recording the drumming rhythms of the native people. As a young man, Dave studied with Segovia, and Berklee School of Music in Boston. He taught guitar in Fayetteville and Washington, D.C., and played with a list of well-known, talented musicians. He was a musician, heart and soul. When MS took his strength, he adapted by using a wheelchair, and when his hands grew weak, he went from guitar to keyboard. The music was always present - he never gave up. Dave taught in the Criminal Justice Department at Fayetteville Technical Community College, retiring in 2001. Dave will always be missed. Our lives were unmeasurably enriched, and we became better people because our paths crossed. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon; in-laws, Earl Gene Williams and wife Elizabeth of Laurinburg, Garry Williams of Oak Island, and Becky Williams of Medical Springs, Ore.; nephews, Andy Williams and wife Kendra of Southport, Westley Boyd of LaGrande, Ore.; nieces, Robin and husband Bennie Howard of Laurinburg, Tammy Williams of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Angie and husband Ralph Kersey of Laurinburg, Carolyn Boyd of LaGrande, and Ann Williams of Boca Raton, Fla.; grandnephews, Daniel Bannerman of Orlando, Fla., Matthew Williams and wife Jessica of Laurinburg, Jordan Steuart of Cocoa Beach, Malachi Rubio of Laurinburg, and Jonathan Williams of Southport; grandnieces, Brandy Gagnon of Cocoa Beach, Courtney Tyner of Asheville, Taylor Kersey of Laurinburg, and Sara Williams of Southport; and great-grandniece, Kyra Wall of Laurinburg; and great-grandnephew, Dominic Gagnon of Cocoa Beach. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, or the MS Society, or any of your favorite charities.VISITATION: 6pm to 8pm on Saturday February 18, 2012 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home FUNERAL: 2PM, Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home BURIAL: Lafayette Memorial Park, Ramsey St.
